Luxonic boosts output capability of LED fittings
Lighting specialist Luxonic has completed a 10-month £750 000 investment in its production facilities at Basingstoke in response to an increasing demand for LED luminaires. The programme sees all the company’s manufacturing consolidated onto one site, which offers ample space for future expansion. 80% of the company’s output is now LED related.
Virtually every Luxonic luminaire, from high bays to ceiling and wall fittings, has been redesigned around LEDs.
The construction of two mezzanine assembly areas increases production area by 30%.
New production equipment include a Trumpf 3000 automated punching station and a Trumpf 85 t brake press for the pressing of steel parts for luminaires and the forming of luminaire metalwork.
Also new is a custom-built Ercon Finishing Systems powder-coating plant with a continuous track length of 44 m. It enables double hanging of products at an increased track speed.
The introduction of a lean-manufacturing programme streamlines manufacturing, vastly improves efficiency and motivates the assembly teams. The principle is to create production cells for each product range, with a team responsible for every aspect of the product of that range.
Nick Tavaré, managing director, said, ‘2013 was a fantastic year for us in terms of sales, and we have seen huge increases in demand for our LED products. This major investment puts us in an excellent position to satisfy the need for energy-efficient LED lighting and grow the business in the future.’
The company was established 28 years ago and has annual sales of £11 million.
