Lighting energy consumption on the Langley College campus of East Berkshire is minimised by absence detection and dimming in response to the availability of natural light. The control strategy makes use of sensors and other equipment from CP Northern

Langley College is the largest campus of East Berkshire College and the centre for most of the main vocational courses, which all have specialist facilities and equipment. The upgrade of lighting controls has been focused on particular spaces where opportunities for energy saving had been identified.

CP lighting control modules are connected to CP detectors linked to simple marshalling boxes to provide absence detection and prevent unnecessary use of lighting in occupied areas.

In areas where there is sufficient penetration of daylight, the absence detection is linked with dimming.

Other work includes installing lighting-control modules with scene-set panels in the new lecture theatre, innovation lounge and some classrooms that have been refurbished as part of the multi-million-pound makeover of the college.
