Kershaw wins major leisure centre project

Kershaw Mechanical Services, contractor

Kershaw Mechanical Services has won the contract to install full M&E building services into the new £12.5 million leisure centre for client Central Bedfordshire Council, working for long-standing partner SDC. The new centre is due to open early in 2016, and the old sports and leisure facilities will be replaced by housing.

The centre will include an 25 m 8-lane swimming pool plus learner pool and toddler splash area, 4-court sports hall, 120-station health-and-fitness suite, three class-based studios, two squash courts, climbing wall, crèche, cafe and health referral room.

The mechanical design and installation works will include a CHP unit and gas-fired boilers. There will be underfloor heating, mechanical ventilation and multiple VRF systems.

Ductwork will be produced by Kershaw’s in-house manufacturing and pre-fabrication workshops.

Ian Greenstock, sales director, said, ‘We are seeing an increased emphasis on sports- and leisure-related projects in our portfolio.’
