Colchester Zoo installs biomass boiler plant

Wood Energy, biomass, renewable energy, wood pellets, boilers, space heating

A containerised plant room that includes a biomass boiler has been supplied by Wood Energy to provide heating and hot water for a number of animal enclosures. They include the lions and the new Australian Rainbows exhibit that creates a tropical rainforest complete with parakeets.

The plant room includes a 199 kW wood-pellet boiler from Hargassner and wood store. The boiler has a factory-lined combustion chamber, automatic indication of ash level and a lambda sensor with fuel-quality detection.

Following delivery to site, which included a crane lift, Wood Energy’s registered installer Bentley Fire Shop installed the unit to the distribution system via a single flow and return connection.

The module is supported by a total warranty covering the coating, structure, insulation and boiler for the entire 20-year payment period of the Renewable Heat Incentive.
