Castle wins contract for largest hotel in Glasgow city centre

Castle Building Services, contractor

M&E services for the largest hotel, by number of rooms, in Glasgow city centre will be installed by Castle Building Services in a £4.3 million contract. The 14-storey Motel One budget hotel next to Central Station will have 374 rooms, bar facilities and restaurant seating for up to 170 covers.

It is the fourth major hotel development that this design and installation specialist has worked on in Glasgow in the past 12 months.

One of the key challenges is the need to install a full range of building services for a large number of rooms in a moderately short time frame, which is where the company’s prefabrication facilities will come to the fore. Derek Reid, Castle’s director for Scotland, says, ‘Apart from time and waste-saving benefits by installing prefabricated modules, it also eliminates teething issues related to testing and commissioning of the building services ahead of the hotel opening its doors to the public.

‘To meet the client’s build schedule, we anticipate commencing prefabrications works in September, with a view to beginning the installation works from January 2017.’
