Giacomini helps create homes from disused office buildings
As part of the conversion of Babcock House in Crawley into a residential development with 185 apartments Giacomini has supplied twin-plate heat interface units to provide independently controlled heating and hot water for each apartment. The disused 8-storey office block will include 185 units comprising studio accommodation and flats with one and two bedrooms.
Since regulations surrounding planning permission were altered, Class B1 offices can be converted to Class C3 residential buildings without the need for specific planning and development permission, there has been a noticeable growth in projects of this nature.
Mike Lowe, managing director of Giacomini UK, commented, ‘The Crawley development is the latest project we have been involved in where we are utilising disused space to bring revenue and housing to the local community whilst complementing a building’s existing features.’
