Vital Energi reaches new heights in London

Vital Energi

Vital Energi has won the £6.7 million design-and-build contract with Mace to provide the low-carbon energy solution for what is set to be the tallest residential building in London’s tech city — the Atlas Building at 145 City Road. which will be 152 m high and have 40 storeys.

The main energy centre will be in the basement and consist of a 158 kW(e) CHP engine, 2.8 MW modular gas boilers and 1 MW of water-cooled chillers. Vital Energi will also install the risers and laterals and the heating and cooling HIUs in each of the 300+ dwellings.

Because of the height of the tower, there will be a plant room on the 19th floor to hydraulically separate the heating and chilled-water systems. This will ensure suitable pressure is delivered to all apartments.

Mark Burns, senior projects engineer with Mace, said, ‘Mace has worked closely with Vital Energi on numerous residential projects. Vital Energi have their own in-house design team, which was extremely important for the award of this project.’

Vital Energi has started working on site, and will continue until the end of 2018.
