British Embassy building wins BREEAM In-Use certificate

EMEA

The British Embassy in Berlin has become one of the first buildings to be awarded a BREEAM In-Use certificate. It has been assessed and rated under the newly launched scheme for existing buildings. The certificate was awarded to Johnson Controls Workplace Solutions.

The building on Wilhelmstrasse was opened by The Queen in July 2000 and is managed by Johnson Controls GWS on behalf of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Ernie Shelton, EMEA director for energy and environmental sustainability with Johnson Controls GWS, says, ‘We have made significant improvements to the building infrastructure and to how it is managed. For example, an intelligent building-management system utilising 19 energy meters is now in place controlling the temperature and air conditioning.’
