Samsung delivers multiple-occupancy air conditioning for refurbishment in Brighton

Samsung’s DVM Plus III (VRF) air-conditioning system has been installed to deliver over 200 kW of cooling for a refurbished 6-storey office building in Brighton. The requirement of main contractor Tangent Projects was for independent control and metering of each floor, and the air-conditioning work for over 900 m2 of floor space was awarded to Semco Building Services.
Each of the six floors is served by a roof-mounted outdoor unit with a cooling capacity of 34 kW serving six slim ducted indoor units providing 5.6 kW of cooling and 6.3 kW of heating.
Tom Haxworth, a director of Tangent Projects, explains that Samsung’s electronics expertise was one of the main reasons for selecting this equipment. ‘Samsung engineers were able to modify the standard control software to accommodate the landlord’s bespoke requirements. The consequent rapid and economical addition of further internal units and control modules is a real benefit for end users wishing to subdivide the offices.’
The system has been integrated with mechanical ventilation systems for each floor.
Capacity controlled is achieved using a digital scroll compressor with 2-stage compression to modulate down to below 10% of full load — rather than inverter control of speed.
