Water-mist fire protection

BRE has published guidance on the use of water-mist systems for protecting buildings. These systems have become increasingly attractive for offices and commercial buildings as they can limit the damage associated with a fire. Water-mist systems can be cheaper to install and operate than automatic sprinkler systems as they use less water and have smaller tanks and less pipework.

BRE Global has conducted 48 tests to investigate core fire-suppressing attributes of water-mist systems to determine the key factors affecting fire-protection performance. The test protocol developed has been adopted by BSI and forms part of a recently published water-mist standard for low-hazard commercial occupancies (DD 8489-7)
