Radiant heating and cooling systems uses up to 20% less energy

S&P Coil Products claims that its low-carbon radiant conditioning system to heat and cool indoor spaces can reduce energy consumption by up to 20% compared to conventional systems. The system uses radiant heat transfer to heat or cool a space using stylish sails that can be blended into the ceiling or made into striking design features. Heating and cooling is provided by reverse-cycle heat pumps.

There is no noise from air movement, and the design of the sails offers options for integrated lighting features.

This radiant conditioning system uses an array of radiant sails/panels mounted close to the ceiling. The lower surfaces of the panels are warmer or cooler than the surfaces of the room so that radiant exchange of heat occurs. Space air is cooled or heated by convection across the surfaces in the room.

Compared to systems that rely almost entirely on convection to directly condition space air, air movement is minimised, as is the vertical temperature gradient.

One of the biggest benefits is that comfort can be achieved with higher air temperatures in cooling mode and lower in heating mode.
