Frost protection for pipes and condensate drains

ATC Semitec, frost protection condensing boiler

To help prevent water pipes and boiler condensate pipes freezing, which stops a condensing boiler operating, ATC Semitec recommends a suitable trace-heater assembly fitted with an integral and very reliable Matsuo MQT frost thermostat to provide a permanent solution.

These frost thermostats are simple to integrate and are claimed to give 10 times the life of conventional disc thermostats. MQTs can be calibrated as low as -10°C, and the differential (hysteresis) can be as small as 3 K — so these devices provide long-term accurate frost protection and minimise energy consumption.
