Chiller cabinets deliver heat for ALDI stores
Recovering heat from chiller cabinets in ALDI stores for space heating is satisfying BREEAM requirements for on-site energy generation and eliminating the need for an independent gas-heating system. S&P Coil Products (SPC) supplied coils for use in Arctic Circle free-heat systems in ALDI stores.
Working with contractor Indtherm Installations of Dudley, SPC has supplied the heat-reclaim coils to 14 stores throughout the UK. They recover 88 kW of heat which was previously vented to atmosphere and which is now used for store heating.
The heat is delivered to the store via a ductwork-mounted SPC heat-recovery condenser coil in the return-air ductwork at high level. This coil heats the air from 18 to 38°C, after which it is either ducted back to the store or exhausted to atmosphere — depending on internal conditions.
This use of heat enables the refrigeration cycle that cools the chiller cabinets to achieve a COP of 6 to 7
The project is being run in partnership with consultants WSP Group of Edinburgh.
