Replacement boilers match existing heating

Potterton Commercial, boiler space heating
New boilers for old match existing radiator circuits in this secondary school.

Potterton Commercial Eurocondense commercial boilers installed to replace life-expired boilers at Holyhead School in Handsworth, Birmingham, were able to complement the existing heating circuit, so only the pipework in the plant room needed replacing. This school currently provides secondary education for 1110 pupils. The previous boilers were original to the building, and certain spare parts were no longer available.

The new energy-efficient installation comprises three Eurocondense 500 kW condensing boilers and three 800 l calorifiers. They were selected by consulting engineers for Dodd Group, with specialist input from the Baxi Commercial Division technical team.

The generously sized plant room presented no access issues. Although classrooms back onto the plant room, the new boilers are much quieter in operation than those they replaced, so noise was not an issue.

The new boilers operate with standalone controls and are not connected to a BMS.

The calorifiers provide domestic hot water throughout the school — serving wash hand basins, sinks and showers.
