BSRIA chairman Tom King awards retiring marketing director Anne King honorary member of the association.

Anne King, MBE, who retired as BSRIA’s marketing director last month (February 2015), has been awarded honorary membership of BSRIA. This is only the 10th such award in the 60-year history of the association and recognises her extraordinary contribution to the association and the promotion of best practice within the building-services industry.

On joining BSRIA in 1978 from a major petro-chemical company, Anne King quickly became involved in the statistics and forecasting. She set about revolutionising the department, turning it into the worldwide market-intelligent division, which is now a global leader in the provision of market-intelligent information for the building-services industry.

She was also responsible for the development of BSRIA’s first CRM (customer relationship management) system, the development of the BSRIA web site, and the development of a range of new products and services for members — including the successful BSRIA networks.

She has also been active in the promotion of new processes such as soft landings and BIM.

Since she was appointed to the board in 1998, turnover has grown to £12 million, and overseas offices have been opened in Beijing and Chicago.

Making the presentation, Tom Smith, BSRIA chairman, said, I first worked with Anne on a project over 15 years ago. Now in my second term as chairman I remain impressed by her hard work and commitment to BSRIA and the industry. Anne has been integral to the development of BSRIA and should feel rightly proud of her accomplishments.’

Julia Evans, BSRIA’s chief executive said, ‘As BSRIA celebrates its 60th year, Anne has played a crucial role in the development of the new 2025 strategy, so putting into place the foundation for further growth and development, supporting our members and the industry and in itself a wonderful conclusion to the magnificent contribution Anne has made to BSRIA over the years.’
