LJJ completes Eltham Community Hospital

LJJ, contractor

Building-services specialist LJJ has completed the £3 million M&E installation contract at Eltham Community Hospital, which will bring Greenwich Intermediate Care Unit, GPs’ surgeries, outpatient and social care into one unit.

The building-services installation includes a 20 kW CHP unit as the main source for the DHW supply, supported by two gas-fired condensing boilers. There are also two plate heat exchangers for the DHW and a 25 000 l cold-water storage tank to give the hospital security of water supply.

Ventilation and comfort cooling is provided by five air-handling units served by a chiller. There are individual air-extract units for the second-floor offices.

The electrical distribution system is supported by a diesel standby generator, uninterruptible power supply and an isolated power system.

Specialist systems include services compliant with the Healthcare Technical Memorandum — including EPR surgeons’ panels, nurse call, bed-head trunking and surgical, treatment and inspection lighting.

There is also a fully programmable fire alarm system, intruder alarm system, access control and door entry system.

This is one of several healthcare projects that LJJ has worked on with main contractor Willmott Dixon.
