Belimo EPIVs help keep leisure centre open during renovation

Belimo, control valve, pressure independent

As part of major renovation of the heating-distribution and complex ventilation system of the Happyland leisure centre in Klosterneuburg, Austria, 45 Belimo EPIVs (electronic pressure-independent control valves, the orange units in the picture) were installed on eight distribution circuits during operation to avoid loss of revenue.

Facilities at this leisure centre include an indoor wellness pool, large outdoor sports pool, playing fields and a large sauna area.

Helmut Doblhofer from the technical office GBT Planung GmbH was quickly convinced of the benefits of EPIVs. He recognised their benefits, such as reduced planning work and simple valve design, because he had already planned the function principle in zone control of the VAV air-handling system

The dynamic hydraulic balancing and large dynamic range of the EPIV make the valve authority across the entire control equal 1.

Cost analysis showed that the overall cost of the Belimo EPIV system to be considerably less than an conventional solution based in a line-type regulator and manual hydraulic balancing. In addition, the EPIV system can be operated much more energy efficiently.
