REL takes on refurb of historic building

REL Electrical, contractor

The transformation of the historic town hall in St Albans into a museum and art gallery will see REL Electrical delivering a £1.1 million M&E contract as part of the £7.75 million project. The contract for this Grade II listed building was awarded by Willmott Dixon Construction.

Services for the 3-storey building will include installing underfloor heating, boiler plant, ventilation, air conditioning, colour-changing lighting and advanced security systems.

Toby Buckley, REL’s managing director, said, ‘This is a complex project that requires previous experience of working in historic buildings, so REL is well positioned to ensure it’s a success.

‘This contract follows our work as pre-construction M&E designers for the refurbishment. Given the building’s listed status and as it is in a conservation area, we had to work closely with the architectural, planning and heritage consultants to develop the design, ensuring modern services can be integrated into the historic property.’
