TridonicAtco control gear adds impact to The Studio in London

The lighting designer’s requirements for this dramatic and flexible space in a London hotel have been met using TridonicAtco PCA Eco T5 control gear.

The Wavin Wall ceiling installed in a new meeting room in the Andaz Hotel in central London is backlit by fluorescent lighting using TridonicAtco PCA Eco T5 control gear. The Studio incorporates a show kitchen and can function as a meeting room one day and a private dining room the next.

Light spills out through gaps in the ceiling to create an exciting visual display.

Neil Knowles, managing director of Elektra and senior lighting designer for the project, approached luminaire manufacturer PJR Engineering to produce a 2-colour 2-circuit system that would achieve even illumination across the five ceiling voids and which could be dimmed. He required a separate circuit for reach colour and the option to mix the colours.

The design team devised a solution using linkable luminaires with two and four lamps with digital signal interfaces.

Ian Smith of PJR Engineering explains, ‘For The Studio, we designed one-off 8 ft and 3 ft 4- and 2-lamp luminaires with twin-circuit operation through wired, linkable, colour lamp over-sleeves using TridonicAtco PCA Eco T5 gear.’

The luminaires were delivered to site as snap-together modules, pre-wired for ease of installation.
