Armstrong packaged plant rooms slash energy costs for Lancashire Police

Armstrong, prefabricated plantroom plant room
The need for fast installation to avoid downtime at the Hutton Hall site of Lancashire Constabulary was met by four packaged plant rooms built off site by Armstrong.

Replacing its old oil-fired boiler house with four packaged plant rooms made offsite by Armstrong will cut nearly £250 000 off the energy bill for the Hutton Hall site of Lancashire Constabulary, giving a payback of less than a year. CO2 emissions will be reduced by 744 t a year. Offsite manufacture enables the new system to be installed within an extremely tight timescale, so that staff were not without heating and hot water in the winter months.

The Hutton Hall site houses several buildings with 24/7 demand, including call centres and the National Police Computer Database.

Once the capital investment was approved there was not enough time to carry out the work using traditional methods before the onset of colder weather.

Energy manager Ed Palmer investigated several options and decided that the most effective solution would be the installation of four packaged plant rooms built off site.

The plant rooms include fully modulating condensing boilers, variable-speed primary pumps, automatic fill/pressurisation units and integrated controls.
