AET meets university challenge

AET’s Flexible Space underfloor air-conditioning system has been installed at this new library building of the University of Surrey.

Advanced Ergonomic Technologies has supplied its Flexible Space System to provide air conditioning for the new library at the centre of the University of Surrey’s Stag Hill Campus. This distinctive gold and glass frame library has an area of 4950 m2 over four storeys and avoids the need for a false ceiling by using this system. It also helped achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Architect RMJM and consulting engineer EDP proposed the CAM-C underfloor supply- and return-air system, which was approved by the client for its flexibility and simplicity to maintain. The underfloor return-air path in the raised access floor satisfied all concerns the university had over future churn.

There is a total of 11 CAM zones over three floors serving Fantile units fitted with hot-water trimming heater to compensate for heat loss. Each Fantile unit has its own built-in controller for local or remote adjustment of fan speed and temperature, so external sensors are not required.
