Hamworthy boiler replacement boosts energy efficiency

Hamworthy boilers
Replacing old boiler plant in a care home with Hamworthy condensing boilers and water heaters has improved energy efficiency.
Hawthorn Lodge, a care home in Nottingham, is set to enjoy lower energy costs following the installation of four new Hamworthy boilers to replace underperforming and out-dated boilers. BP Dempsey of Sheffield installed two Wessex ModuMax 120 condensing boilers and two Dorchester DR-RS 40 gas-fired water heaters for Regal Care Homes, which is already making a good payback in fuel savings. The boilers have a fully modulating pre-mix burner to accurately match load requirements. An electronic thermostat monitors their operating conditions and automatically adjusts output to provide a rapid response to the demand for heat. A boiler sequencing cascade controller ensures optimum performance. The two Dorchester room-sealed, fully automatic, direct gas-fired water heaters have a combined storage capacity of 624 l and can achieve a continuous duty of 1624 l/h. Sim Cowan of BP Dempsey, explains, ‘The boilers heat the care home through a radiator system, and separating the hot water from the heating system maximises the opportunity for energy saving.’
