UKAS accreditation for BSRIA heat-pump testing

BSRIA claims to have become the first UK laboratory to receive UKAS certification for testing heat pumps and air-conditioning systems to the EN14511 standard.

Greg King, heat of test and certification at BSRIA, says, ‘This accredited test facility plays an important role in the field of increasing the quality of heat-pump technology. Beside standard tests, BSRIA provides manufacturers with the opportunity to use our expertise and test rig also for product development.’

Thermal performance and power consumption can be tested in heating and cooling mode for air-sour, water-source and ground-source heat pumps. Results include testing COP and EER at full load to EN14511 and part-load testing of HSPF (heating seasonal performance factor), SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio0 and part-load COP to prEN14825.

Testing for part-load COP demonstrates the product’s long-term efficiency and gives more realistic performance data for a heat pump in real use.
