Chartwell Controls are a dynamic team of experienced controls experts delivering a wide range of BMS controls, project engineering, energy saving solutions and on-going support.

Their core business concentrates on business-critical systems required for the data-centre market. They are a turnkey provider of BMS solutions — including a full BMS design, engineering capability of software and graphics, in-house panel building supported by BMS and electrical power installation.

They provide target-focused energy reduction and innovative condition-based monitoring (CBM) and a 24 hour 7-day support service

Established six years ago, the company ethos is based on the essential importance of customer focus coupled with training and staff development.

Paul Coker, managing director (right in picture), explained, ‘Our company implicitly believes that client satisfaction can only be achieved by ensuring our engineering and project management team are of the highest professional level, having a “can-do” attitude and the flexibility to adopt new technologies.

‘We provide this assurance by having a company culture set around the right personnel with the correct balance of skills combined with a positive mental attitude so that adopting and adapting becomes second nature.

‘We understand that to be at the leading edge in building-controls technology requires the ability to integrate increasing complex systems, whilst delivering optimum economic system performance keeping energy consumption under control.

‘Operating in the UK and across several EU countries, we work in the multi-national data-centre arena where business-critical systems are completely embedded in the project design philosophy. Our clients expect us to work at the highest level, assisting them with initial design solutions through to project roll out and servicing.

‘Chartwell’s commitment to learning and skill enhancement is reflected in their attitude to competency. All engineers have a quarterly review of their professional development plan where performance and objectives are correlated and new agreed targets are set for the next review.’

Paul Coker continued, ‘We all agree that training and development is extremely important in the building-controls industry, but equally important is to ensure learning and experience is carefully managed, not only for our company but the individual’s own professional satisfaction.

‘Our client base is wide and varied — from local authorities to large server data halls. As an independent systems installer, we work with a number of manufacturers to ensure we can offer our customers the best choice of products and systems.

‘Clearly with integration being essential for all building-management systems (BMS), being a CentraLine by Honeywell Partner with access to the Hawk and Niagara based software is most important. The Hawk integration controller with it’s on board graphics and inbuilt programming software has been a very useful addition to the solution portfolio we can offer our customers.’

Alan King, Chartwell’s service and energy director, explains, ‘Innovation is a key differentiator for successful systems installers and is an integral part of Chartwell’s value proposition. Our commitment to training and supporting engineer’s development is typified by the excellent work carried out by our engineer Raf Kapela (left in photo).

‘Raf has been with us for three years. He has been trained on Niagara software and is now writing custom drivers suitable for the Hawk integration controller. Being able to offer the best solution to a client’s application is the role of systems installer. However, being able to utilise the Niagara software to offer unique solutions helps keeps us one step ahead in a very competitive industry.’

Roger Coote, CentraLine by Honeywell senior account manager, concludes, ‘It is really gratifying to work with a company like Chartwell Controls. The Hawk is a product with exceptional possibilities for integration and it is really exciting to see how Chartwell will use its commitment to training to fully utilise its potential in delivering advanced building control systems.’
